What is Neuroaffirming practice?
Neuroaffirming practice is a modern way of providing healthcare, therapy, and social support to neurodivergent people. It's different from the old medical model. Instead of trying to 'fix' differences, neuroaffirming practice respects and values the unique experiences and strengths of neurodivergent individuals.
In this approach, we acknowledge that being neurodivergent is a part of a person's identity and not something that needs fixing. The goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment that appreciates and celebrates the special viewpoints of neurodivergent individuals. Neuroaffirming practice also makes sure that everyone feels included and listened to, giving power back to the person.
Moreover, it's a method that considers the person and their family at the center. Everyone works together, making decisions and plans collaboratively. This way, the person and their support system have an active role in the treatment and feel empowered throughout the process.
